Czech Republic Overview
A charmingly
historic yet rapidly modernizing country, the Czech Republic offers visitors
an appealing blend of old and new. The nation has in recent decades become
popular with foreign visitors thanks to its stunning architecture, beautiful
scenery, and relatively inexpensive cost of living. The Czech people themselves
- friendly, dynamic, and generally welcoming of foreigners - are, of course,
the greatest draw.
Prague has stirred -- within its cocoon of medieval castles, gothic cathedrals,
and winding cobblestone streets -- since the fall of European Communism.
Because of its impressive and varied architectural beauty (left largely
undamaged by World War II) the city itself is a virtual open-air museum.
The seat of the national government, Prague is also the capital of Bohemia,
a title that has as much significance socially as geographically. The city
of over a million people boasts a youthful nightlife that hums seven days
a week, a vibrant artistic community, a growing economy, and much of the
world's greatest beer.
Striking architectural beauty is not limited to the nation's capital; Gothic,
Renaissance, and Baroque buildings grace towns all over the country. Cyclists
will enjoy the great Bohemian plateau, caving enthusiasts will love the
Moravian Kras area, and hikers will find unspoiled nature just about everywhere.
If you simply need a rest, take
in
the thermal waters at Karlovy Vary spa or indulge in the rich cuisine at
one of the premier restaurants of Prague.

Teaching Jobs Overview - Czech Republic
It is easy to find teaching jobs in Czech Republic if you have an accredited
certificate.
Students in the Czech Republic are usually adults learning English for professional
reasons, or children and teenagers studying the language as a required part
of their education. In any case, you'll likely find your Czech students
respectful and quite motivated to learn English.
The typical salary for an English teacher in Prague is 15,000-25,000 Koruna
(CZK), or around US$800-1,300 per month, depending on the school and number
of hours worked. Health insurance is often provided as a benefit to teachers
once they have a valid work visa.
Because the cost of living is relatively low in the Czech Republic, with
rent for a shared apartment around US$400 and a restaurant meal just US$3-$4,
a typical teacher's salary is usually enough to make a living. However,
for those wanting to supplement their income, taking on extra hours or teaching
private students is a viable (and often lucrative) option.
Your students will usually either be adults looking to polish their English
for professional reasons, or children and teenagers studying the language
as a required part of their primary or secondary education. You may find
yourself teaching exam preparation to a group of adults in a private language
school, or a high-level conversation class to teenagers in a public high
school.
In
any case, chances are you'll find your Czech students respectful and quite
motivated to learn English.

either shared or single (usually in an apartment with other teachers) and
provide you with a monthly stipend.
It seems that every person in Prague owns at least one mobile phone. There

all over the city. Note that, with a Czech cell phone, you can typically
receive calls from the US for free.
Internet Cafes are abundant throughout Prague.
